Keyway Dimensions
Selection
Enter the shaft diameter to get the DIN 6885-1 parallel key and the shaft and hub keyway dimensions with tolerances for your fit.

Keyway fit
Shaft keyway / hub keyway width
Key sizes and keyway depths per DIN 6885-1 (parallel keys, high type) for shaft diameters over 6 up to 500 mm. Width tolerances from ISO 286.
Results are provided for guidance. Always confirm critical dimensions against the current standard and your drawing.

Choosing a key
Key size follows the shaft
DIN 6885-1 assigns one key cross-section b × h to each shaft diameter range, so the key size is set by the shaft diameter.
Free, normal or close
Free (H9/D10) lets the hub slide along the key. Normal (N9/JS9) suits most fixed hubs. Close (P9/P9) gives a tight key for reversing or shock loads.
Checking keyway depth
Depths t1 and t2 are measured from the shaft surface. On the part it is easier to measure d − t1 across the shaft and d + t2 across the hub bore, so both are given with their tolerances.
